Reflection on Personal Development 1

To be honest, before attending MPU classes, I felt that MPU classes for sure are wasting my time and boring...

However, my mind changed right after the second class. I started to look forward to the next and following classes. During that time, our teacher, Mr Irwan thought us how to create our blog and our first assignment was to write on our  personal  background, achievements, ambition and university of choice. I was excited because  eventually I created my own blog  since thinking for a long time! And
I really made effort in designing it and I was satisfied with the design of my blog.

Then, we learned Taylor's Graduate Capabilities which increased my passion in studies because from that I only knew how the knowledge and skills from the subjects that we learned in A Levels help us to succeed in highly competitive and challenging world.

The reason that I like MPU classes is also because I got to discover my personality type and explore my learning style through the Myers-Briggs/ Jung Test and VAK Learning Style Test. To me, the result of the MBTI test was the most accurate among all the test that I did before. And I felt that the description was all about me and it really suited me 99%. For the VAK test, I tried to use the learning methods suggested and it worked! I am glad to say that my learning effect was being reinforced and maximized.

MPU classes helped to finalize my career option because the career relevant traits and possible career path matched with my mind. I was really happy because finally I knew what job suited me the most and I think I would not regret for choosing it in future.

From the assignment given "Reflection", I only found out that actually reflection was indeed important in our life. The DIEP method helped us to interpret our action and evaluate what we had learned from the past experience and plan how this learning would be applied in future.

I learned how to create my own Powtoon and Prezi on how to present my S.W.O.T and goals in fun and interactive way. It helped me to enhance my computer skills and presentation skills.

The active plan that I made also enable me to have a clear mind on what should I do and how should I do in order to enter my university of choice.

To me, in MPU classes not only learning occurred
but also discovering personality
and planning for future!!!

This is a movie about my S.W.O.T in entering university of choice. S.W.O.T analysis aims to analyze my personal development prospects and reveal my competitive advantages. It also prepares myself for problems and drafting out plans before problems arise.

Personal Reflection

17 Jan 2014 – 19 Jan 2014. These are the days that I would remember for life. My life changes. My mind set changes. 

17 Jan 2014 (Friday) was Thaipusam, so it supposed to be a wonderful and enjoyable public holiday because there were consecutively three days for me to rest including Saturday and Sunday. Yes, it did at first. Early in the morning, my brother suggested to have ‘dimsum’ as breakfast. So my family and I happily departed to a Chinese food court. All of us are in high spirits as it had been a long time since we had our last ‘dimsum’ gathering together. We shared a lot of thoughts and feelings as well as funny experience in school or office. 

To me, it was indeed a relaxing time after a hustle and bustle week in school. At that moment, school had just reopened and I couldn’t adapt to the busy environment yet because my mind and body were still at holiday mood after the one-and-a-half-month school holiday. After paying the bills, we decided to go to the market. I held my grandma firmly and both of us walked slowly to the car. Along the way, my grandma said to me, “You are the one who cares me the most.” Then, I asked her why she said like this. She answered me because I was the only one who would always hold her whenever and wherever she went. I told her this was because I scared her falling down and she said she wouldn’t fall down easily……

Everything was normal till me on my mum’s phone after the tuition class. My mum and I were shocked when we saw many missed calls from my family. We quickly read a message from my father. URGENT! GRANDMA FELL DOWN AND FAINTED. HER CONDITION WAS NOT GOOD. QUICKLY COME TO HOSPITAL. Without further delay, we rushed to the hospital. Although my mum’s speed was already high, I still felt that it was the longest moment sitting in the car. My heart beats so fast and I couldn’t calm down myself. I prayed hardly to God. Eventually we arrived at the hospital however I can’t enter the ICU as the visiting time was over. My dad told me grandma fell down after taking bath and she fainted. The doctors said that the blood clot in my grandma’s head was too serious and she advised us not to have surgery as my grandma was old and her body couldn’t experience the big surgery. That night, I didn’t have appetite to eat and it was really a sleepless night. 

The next day, my grandma was shifted to BM hospital. My family and relatives prayed hard for miracle to happen. We stayed at grandma’s side and talked to her to wake her up. We hoped that she would wake up as doctor said if she could wake up within 3 days, then she had a high possibility can live for another ten years. But 19 Jan 2014, my grandma passed away. My tears couldn’t stop rolling down. I really hoped that it was just a dream and when I woke up she was still there. 

These three days, I really felt that I was having a roller coaster ride. From the happiest moment dropped to the saddest moment…… Grandma, everybody was shocked that you left us suddenly and unexpectedly. None of us was mentally and emotionally prepared. However we were standing by your side when you passed away. We missed you much…

For me, the most significant yet important aspects of this incident include enable me to value family love and change my attitude to be a more considerate and observant people. As from this incident, I only realised that I take too much things for granted. I didn’t appreciate and value the things that I have in my life. My grandma took care of me since I was small. She really played an important role in my life. She was the one who brought to kindergarten on the first day and the one who accompanied me to wait for the school bus every day during primary and secondary school days. Every day she would prepared lunch and sometimes breakfast for me. She also helped us to do house chores. 

I really regretted for not appreciating and being thankful of what she did to me. Sometimes I even complaint to her that the food was not nice. And I felt sorry that I didn’t notice my grandma’s health was getting bad earlier because recently she always loved to lie on the sofa and slept for a long time. Looking back, this is actually a sign that indicates her health problem and warning us she has a high possibility to suffer from stroke. I think I failed to notice it is because I focus too much on studies and left other things aside.

Thus from this incident, I learn to appreciate what I have in my life and I should express my love and appreciation to those who cares about me before it is too late. Besides I feel that I should take all things into considerate such as the conditions and feelings of family members because after staying alone in home for the past six months break after SPM, I finally know the feelings of lonely which experience by my grandma before. In the past 2 years, I was too busy in studies and co-curiccular activities in school. I went back home late every day and rarely had time to chit chat with my grandma. I regret for not spending more time to talk with her when she sat by myside and accompanying me doing homework. So from that day onwards, I started to communicate with my family members every day to listen to their whole day experience and actually from the sharing session I know more about them and our family bond is being strengthen. And after doing the house chores, I only know that it is really tiring. Hence every day I will volunteer to do all the house chores as I am free and I want to lessen my mum’s burden too. Furthermore, I learn to be more observant. If anyone in our family is feeling not well, I will straight give him or her the warmest concern. I also know how to balance my time and give more time and priority to family matters. 

I have significantly developed my communicating and observing skills from that day onwards. I am sure that these skills will help me much in future as I planned to become an occupational therapist after graduating. Being an occupational therapist, I need to know all about my patients and the only way to get all these information is through communicate with them and observing them. In daily life, these soft skills are also vital as they can ensure me to interact well with others. However, I still need to enhance my skills in order to perform even better in future.

Lastly, I would like to say grandma I miss you deeply and thank you for what you did to me. I will remember all the precious memories and happy moments with you. If I were given a chance, I hope that I can be your granddaughter in the next life. 

Career Test

Today I did a career test during the MPU lesson. The results show that I am a INFJ which is the same as the MBTI personality test that I did last week. And inside the list of possible career paths for INFJs, there are my job options such as doctors, dentists and health care specialists. Thus I think the career test is useful to me as I can narrow down my choices and eventually make wise decisions on my future career pathway.

Being an INFJ means I have a quest to live a life of meaning and purpose, and therefore my career needs to be more than a job, but has to be something that can live up to my principles and feel right. As an INFJ, my intuition is mixed with my strong values, I have a sense of knowing and therefore are natural and comfortable as leaders and work well as such, although I can work as a follower if I am taking directions from someone I fully support, otherwise I will not be happy in your situation.

In the outside world, I place a great deal of importance in having things in order, and having the best system for getting things done, whilst always reevaluating the priorities in my life. On the other hand I can operate internally with spontaneity. My intuition gives you great insight into things, and I am often right about something, even with little background information.

My penetrating insight into other people and issues, and the internal way I deal with this, means I don't easily share what information I obtain about others unless I choose to share it. I am deep and complex, usually private and therefore difficult to understand.

However, as an INFJ I am genuinely warm as I am complex, and I have a special place in my heart for those close to me, for which I can see and feel the depth of my caring. In tune to other's emotions I avoid hurting other's feelings. Often the perfectionist, I may wrestle with finding peace as I feel that there is more to improve my world and the lives of others around me. My high expectations means you strive to exist in a state of continual growth and I easily overlook my own accomplishments.

Like other INFJs, ,my workplace should be one of creatively and independence. I most likely have a natural affinity for art and the sciences, as well as being found in service orientated positions. I should avoid working with very detailed tasks, or else I will be in the other extreme, where I am working so meticulously I cannot see the big picture and can be highly critical of others who are not being as meticulous.

To maximize the effect of learning, we need to explore our own learning style. The Visual Auditory Kinaesthetic (VAK) learning style model suggests that most people will possess a dominant and preferred learning style. However, some people may have mixed and evenly balanced blend of three styles. After answering the questionnaire, the results show that I am the visual learner, Emilyn and Eddy are auditory learners whereas Mohd Idham and Elsa are kinaesthetic learner.

Visual Learner (Show me! Let's have a look at that!)

I prefer learn through seeing. Observing and looking at things such as pictures, diagrams, demonstrations, displays, handouts, films, flipchart and so on are the things that I love to do when learning something. I will think in pictures and need to create vivid mental images if I would like to retain the information. I am sure I will be able to perform a new task once I read the instructions or watching someone else doing it first. I will work from my lists or written directions and instructions.

Visual learner can use graphics to reinforce learning and colour code to organise notes. For important points in text, use colour to highlight them. Jotting down notes is important. You can use flow charts or diagrams for note-taking. Illustrating ideas as a picture before writing them down and visualise spelling of words to be memorised.

Auditory Learner (Tell me! Let's talk it over)
They earn through listening. They have highly developed auditory skills and are generally good at speaking and presenting. They will rather think in words than pictures. They learn best through verbal lectures, discussions, talking things through and listening to what others say. Maybe they are happy when given spoken instructions over the telephone and can remember all the words to songs that they hear. 

For auditory learner, read aloud and recite information to learn. Use tunes or rhymes as mnemonic devices. Verbal and storytelling can be used to demonstrate the points.

Kinaesthetic Learner (Let me try! How do you feel?)

They has a preference for moving, doing and touching when learning. They will mostly express themselves through movement. They have a good sense of balance and eye-hand coordination. Remembering and processing information through interacting with the space around them help them much in learning. Probably they will find it hard to sit still for long periods and ma become distracted by their need for activity and exploration. They are the people who like experiment, hands-on and never look at the instructions first.

Models can be made or role play can be carried out by kinaesthetic learner to physically experience learning. They can annotate text and write questions while reading. Perhaps they can walk when memorising things.

Myers-Briggs/Jung Test Review

The MBTI Personality Test shows that I am INFJ (Introversion, Intuition, Feeling, Judging). From the Harry Potter MBTI Chart, I am the counselor, Fleur Delacour/Remus Lupin. I truly agree with the result of the test because I am conscientious and value-driven. In daily life I seek meaning in relationships, ideas and events with an eye towards better understanding myself and others. I have a clear and confident vision about how best to serve common good. I regard problems as opportunities to design and implement creative solutions so I have perseverance in doing the right thing. I am committed to my firm values so I trust my instincts completely which are often right.

I am a quiet and private person. I prefer to exercise my influence behind the scenes so I may have difficulties in standing up for myself. But I think I will  work hard to overcome this situation soon. Although I am very independent, I have great interest in observing others' need and desires. I want to understand what motivates people. I prefer one-to-one relationships compared to large groups. 

I value self-control. Thus although I have a rich and vivid inner life, I may be reluctant to share my thoughts with others around me. And to be honest, I really value individualistic. I am guarded in expressing my own feelings, especially to new people and so I tend to establish close relationships in a slower pace. Yes, I tend to be easily hurt but I will never reveal this to others except close companions. I usually will withdraw silently as a way of setting limits rather than expressing my wounded feelings, so maybe my behavior will leave others confused and upset.

Sensitive, quiet leaders with a great depth of personality best described me. I am mysterious and highly complex, others would not know my thoughts easily. I have an orderly view towards the world but I arranged it in a complex way internally which that can only understand by myself. Abstract in communicating, I live in a world of hidden meanings and possibilities. With a natural affinity for art, I agree that I am creative and easily inspired but I also do well in the sciences with the aid of my intuition.

Today's world is challenging. In order to succeed, we need to be highly competitive. Taylor’s Graduate Capabilities (TGC) outlines the core knowledge, cognitive capabilities and soft skills that Taylorians will develop from the programme they study. The TGC gives students the EDGE TO START and STAY AHEAD. 

In my opinion, Biology is one of the subjects in Cambridge A Levels programme that help us to develop TGC. From BIOLOGY, we learn to discipline specific knowledge by carrying out different types of experiment in the lab to practice the theory that we studied in class. Besides, we do revision after every chapter in order to have a better understanding on the concepts and theories learned. Interpersonal skills are gained through the assignment and presentation that being given by the lecturers. We learn how to communicate and interact with our teammates during discussions as well as how to perform our thoughts to others. Our thinking and problem solving skills can be enhanced. For example, a new technique is being invented: heart transplant from cadaver. Apart from that, by doing research, we obtain lifelong learning. We can have some changes in diet after knowing which nutrition are essential for our health in order to lead a healthy lifestyle. Citizenship and global perspectives can be developed via becoming a medical volunteer and being up-to-date of the information of Ebola disease.

Hi, I'm Jie Yee!!
Let me introduce myself using 5 simple facts:

1. I have 5 days more to be officially 18 years old and you can guess when's my birthday and what's my horoscope using the hint given.......

2. Currently I'm studying at Taylor's College Subang Jaya and taking Cambridge A Levels, it's really a tough programme.

3. I'm an outstation student and my hometown is actually Penang where is commonly known as food paradise.

4. To be honest, I love sleeping the most as it is the best way to give my stress "wings" to fly away and to let me forget all the worries and sad moments.

5. I'm an impetuous person and I always do things in a very fast pace except walking, hahaha...

What's my ambition???

This question has been running through my mind for many times and I guess hundred times maybe. I bet everyone of us will surely agree that this is the most popular and common sentence that we often questioned by teachers during the first day of school, right? And to me it occurs every year no matter in primary school or secondary school. Fortunately, it didn't happen in the first day of my college life. I don't like this question much because I keep on changing my ambition. Initially I wanted to become a doctor when I was 7 years old and then later became lawyer because the influence of the drama that I watched. Few years later, I decided to become an engineer. And now I have a few choices either to become a occupational therapist, a biotechnologist or should I stick to my childhood dream and become a doctor? I'm still considering and doing many types of career test so that I can make a wise decision that I'll not regret. I hope that I can choose the career that I really like and have the ability to cope with it.

What's my achievements???

Basically, I'm the Vice President of the Librarian Club and the Purple House in my secondary school. I'm also the committee member of Wushu Club so my main achievement in sports is winning gold medals in Wushu Competition. I'm a calligraphy lover and I participated in many calligraphy competitions. My overall best achievement is representing the school and won gold medals in state Calligraphy Competition. For academics, my best record is obtaining gold medals in state Writing Competition. 

What's my universities of choice???

So far I only have a draft idea on my universities of choice and I haven't finalize it yet because I'm still not sure which course should I take, so I can't actually decide which university should I enter to pursue my degree. Hence at this moment, my top 5 university of choices including University College London, King's College, University of Manchester, University of Melbourne and University of Sydney. But honestly, the university that I like the most and dream to study in is University College London. I am fond of the characteristics of a UCL education especially an exceptional learning environment and a distinctive ethos.
